What¹s so magical about traditional black and white photography? With the advent of digital photography, it is becoming increasingly difficult for young people to experience the thrill of watching a photograph emerge from blank paper to image. Traditional black and white photography has volumes to teach emerging photographers about the basics of what makes an excellent
photograph including; the relationship between light and image, seeing qualities of light, developing an eye for composition, and learning to control print quality. Since photography means writing with light, there is nothing like working with light sensitive black and white film, a manual camera and hands-on darkroom printing to learn key photographic skills.

PhotoMagic 44 is a five-day photography camp for youth aged
13 -19. This innovative and intensive week-long camp will utilize the extensive production and darkroom facilities at Gallery 44, focus on our unique location in the 401 Richmond arts building situated among many of Toronto's leading artist-run galleries, as well as Gallery 44¹s location in the heart of downtown Toronto.
