El museo constituye la única institución cultural de relevancia en la comuna de Maipú, la más poblada del país con 520.000 habitantes. La institución se enfrenta al compromiso de apoyar y complementar la tarea educativa de innumerables colegios que lo visitan y satisfacer el interés y conocimiento del público adulto y motivar y acrecentar su aprecio por los hechos históricos, los personajes que intervinieron en ellos, así como el rico patrimonio artístico y costumbrista que mantiene en exhibición.
