Los Museos son la memoria de la humanidad.
Las colecciones de moda e indumentaria nos revelan aspectos únicos y representan una interesantisima fuente de información para el estudio de la cultura y la sociedad.
El vestido actúa como un lenguaje y trasmite información entre el individuo y el grupo; se usa, también, para mostrar el papel que “deseamos” o “tenemos” que desempeñar, y puede ser usado, incluso, como signo de protesta.
La vestimenta refuerza la opinión que una persona quiere mostrar de sí misma: su identidad.
La identidad incluye la idea de pertenencia a determinado grupo. Desde su infancia, las personas aprenden (sus padres les trasmiten) a llevar vestidos que pertenecen a distintos sistemas de valores y símbolos.
La sociedad determina la “vestimenta apropiada” para cada papel en el teatro de la vida.
¿Por que, entonces, los museos de indumentaria coleccionan, preservan e interpretan estos objetos destinados al vestido y adorno personal? Por que se interesan en objetos de naturaleza, aparentemente tan efímera?
Porque estas prendas tienen un vínculo inmediato y personal con las cinco preguntas que todos, investigadores y visitantes, se hacen: ¿qué, dónde, cómo, cuando y por qué?
Los elementos para el vestido y adorno personal nos cuentan, efectivamente la historia de la humanidad.
