The Water tower is one of the Chicago office of tourism's Official Visitor's Centres. The tower was originally erected to help fight fires and it was in fact one of the few buildings to survive the Great Chicago fires of 1871 and has become a symbol of Old Chicago and a bastion of the city's strength. Aside from the historical appeal the tower offers there is shopping galore around its base.
